The Hermès Birkin 40cm is the largest of the Birkin line. For most women, the Birkin 40 is too large and heavy to wear every day. For daily wear, many of our customers prefer the Birkin 30 or the Birkin 35. The Baby Birkin is a lovely choice for transitioning from day to evening.
Measuring 15.75” wide, 12.75” high, and 8” deep, the Birkin 40 is treasured as a travel bag or as a gorgeous briefcase. Made of durable leather, the Birkin 40 holds up to the vagaries of travel and work. As a result, it is often called the “workhorse” Birkin.
The Birkin 40 also appeals to men. In addition to the classic Birkin 40, there is a 40cm Travel Birkin and 40cm Haut á Courroies, commonly shortened to HAC. Originally introduced in 1892 to hold riding boots, the HAC is the predecessor to the Birkin. It is taller than the classic Birkin 40 and has shorter handles but equally roomy and durable. The HAC comes in 40cm and 50cm sizes and is designed primarily for men on the go.
