Hermès Bags
Hermès of Paris was established in 1837 by Thierry Hermès. Initially a producer of equestrian harnesses and bridles — a heritage that remains central to the brand’s DNA — it wasn’t until the 1900s that Hermès expanded to offer accessories, ready-to-wear and handbags. Now considered to be the gold standard in luxury leather goods, the flagship is still located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, at the 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré address which it has occupied since 1889.
The two most coveted Hermès handbags are named for the celebrities they honor. The Kelly was re-named for actress Grace Kelly in 1956, while the Birkin, named after Jane Birkin, was introduced in 1984. Due to the exceedingly high demand for Hermès bags, they continue to be valued far in excess of their retail prices. As such, they are excellent investment pieces to be passed down through generations.
