Robert Dumas designed the first Hermès Verrou as an Hermès clutch bag. It was introduced in 1938 when the bag’s sleek, minimalist silhouette and bold hardware styling were ahead of its time. Produced only in limited quantities, the bag appealed to a fashion-forward audience. The Verrou clutch was revived in 2010 to great acclaim, and in 2017, a delicate Chaîne d’Ancre chain was added, turning it into a shoulder bag, though not a crossbody.

Today, new Hermès mini Verrou bags and the Verrou 21 are available with a jewelry-like chain, a leather shoulder strap, or a wide, colorful wool strap. The Verrou designer clutch bags can still be found on the secondary market, though we hope to see them added to the current collection.
